They come in handy for so many great crafts for kids like these colourful toilet roll fish with shiny scales.
They are so much fun to make and your child can get creative decorating them in whatever colours and patterns they choose.
A quick and easy spring or summer craft for kids.
Time: 10 minutes
Age: Toddlers to Little kids
Difficulty: Easy Peasy
You will need:
- Paper toilet roll
- Acrylic paints
- Paint brushes
- Sequins (optional)
- Googly eyes (optional)
Step 1: Paint your paper rolls
Paint your paper rolls in paint.
We chose bright colours and used acrylic paints as they give a nice thick layer.
You might need 2 coats of paint to cover the cardboard well.
Step 2: Cut out your fish shapes
Fold your tube to make it flat and cut a rounded shape at one end.
Then cut out two triangles at the other end to make the tail shape.
Step 3: Get decorating
Now comes the fun bit. Paint patterns all over your fish. You could paint on dots, zig zags, stripes or wavy lines – whatever you like.
You could even glue down some shiny sequins to make fish scales.
If you make a whole shoal of fish maybe decorate some with paint and some with sequins, like we have done.
Step 4: Bring your little fish to life
Glue on a googly eye or simply paint on an eye using black and white paints.
Then paint on a little smile to bring your paper roll fishie to life.
Your little fish are all ready. Why not make a whole shoal?
